Our area is filled with endless beautiful hiking trails, as close as our backyard (literally!). You can walk right out our back patio doors and into National Forest - trails include the popular Arnold Rim Trail. Within a short drive of the Inn, you can set off on various trails that wind through the Stanislaus National Forest, Calaveras Big Trees State Park is just three miles up Highway 4 and offers hiking among two groves of giant sequoia. The North Grove features a gentle, 1.5 mile self-guided trail. The larger South Grove offers 3.5 mile and 5 miles hikes through an expansive forest of ancient sequoia. The area was discovered in 1852 by hunter A.T. Dowd, and has been a popular tourist attraction ever since.

You will love this guy, and he knows EVERYTHING about fishing - where to go, when to go, what to use... He maintains an up-to-date fishing report, at the store, and online at this website. There are dozens of lakes, rivers, resevoirs, and fishing holes in the area.
