Our Region Provides Exceptional Experiences and you've found the perfect spot for wine tasting, outdoor activities, entertainment and enjoying the High Sierra.  At 4,000 feet, you can head down the mountain for wine-tasting, local entertainment, and great shopping.  Head up Highway 4 to explore and enjoy high country recreation and scenery, including Big Trees State Park.

Arnold is the gateway to the new Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway (EPSB).  On Highway 4, over 58 miles of spectacular scenery and recreational opportunities stretch east from Arnold to Bear Valley, across Ebbetts Pass at 8,730 feet, and descend to meet with Highway 89 at picturesque Markleeville.  During our winter season, Highway 89 is closed past Bear Valley.  The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway (EPSB) offers the most wilderness scenery of any Scenic Byway in California. Beautiful Lake Alpine is located on Highway 4 about 30 minutes from the Inn.  The elevation of the lake is 7,300 feet.  The forest service has developed day use picnic areas that are located on the north side of the lake. These areas have barbecues and picnic tables.  You may rent canoes, kayaks, and fishing boats at the lodge.

Truly magnificent groves of Giant Sequoias with trees over 2,000 years old, 325 feet in height, and 33 feet in diameter.  Visit the website and click on "Trails" to see examples of Earth's largest living objects.  Download a brochure about the park in PDF format that details the camping, hiking, fishing, and wildlife resources of the park.

Our region has an extensive and fascinating system of caverns.  You can walk, raft, or rappel your way through these amazing natural wonders that were first explored thousands of years ago by Native Americans.  Recently a quarter-mile aerial zip line adventure has been added to Moaning Caverns.
